On June 12, 2025, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced that leading semiconductor firm Micron Technology is committing $200 billion to expand its semiconductor operations in the U.S.—marking the single largest U.S. semiconductor investment ever.
Investment Details
Micron—the only U.S.-based advanced chipmaker—will spend $150 billion of its investment in building and upgrading memory chip factories, and $50 billion on research and development for advanced technologies.
The company aims to produce 40% of its DRAM chips in the U.S., a move expected to create around 90,000 jobs and boost both local economies and national tech leadership.
New and Upgraded Facilities
Micron is building and upgrading multiple sites. In Idaho, two new high-volume DRAM factories are underway—the first already under construction, with chip production expected by 2027.
Up to four new factories are planned in New York, with site work beginning later this year, and Micron’s existing facility in Manassas, Virginia, will be expanded and modernized.
Incentives
Micron’s investment qualifies for federal programs like the CHIPS & Science Act subsidies and Advanced Manufacturing Investment Credit, plus state and local support and incentives.
It also supports U.S. leadership in high-demand technologies, including AI, automotive, aerospace, and defense, while lowering project costs and speeding up development.
