Back in June, General Motors’ military product subsidiary GM Defense unveiled its eMCV, an Electric Military Concept Vehicle, based on the GMC Hummer EV pickup. The development came after the U.S. Army chose GM Defense to produce — for assessment and demonstration — a light to heavy-duty battery-electric vehicle that reduces reliance on fossil fuels.

Featuring General Motors’ Ultium Platform, the eMCV can hold six passengers and uses the Hummer EV’s suspension system and chassis. However, there are a few modifications. GM Defense incorporated 37-inch tires, Fox performance shock absorbers, and a heavy-duty brake system. Engineers also reportedly improved the production truck’s approach and departure angles for better off-road performance.

Other features on the military electric vehicle include swing side-arm mounts, a 46-inch gun ring, Silent Drive and Silent Watch capabilities that minimize acoustic and thermal signatures, exportable power for essential mission equipment, and a 12-kilowatt diesel-powered generator.

Similar to the Hummer EV Edition 1, the eMCV features an Ultium battery pack with a pair of layers of vertical cell modules that combine to provide over 200 kilowatt-hours across 24 modules. Positioned at the vehicle’s center, the pack helps maintain a low center of gravity and allows for short front and rear overhangs.

The vehicle supports 800-volt DC charging up to 350 kilowatts, providing approximately 100 miles of driving range in 12 minutes. The total estimated range is 329 miles.

The Edition 1 model’s three-motor e4WD propulsion system is also included in the eMCV and results in performance figures of 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 foot-pounds of wheel torque.

The eMCV follows GM Defense’s eISV introduced in 2021, which was based on the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 platform.
