
On April 18, 2024, GM Energy, a subsidiary ofGeneral Motors(GM), announced that it will bereleasinga new range of products that will give users the ability to share power between their electric vehicles (EVs) and homes. In a move to encourage an all-electric future, GM is increasing the energy (and money) saving perks offered to EV owners, extending them to the home, too.
Designed to help customers keep their homes safe during blackouts, become more energy-efficient, and lower their utility bills, GM has released a line of products, some of which are already available on its e-commerce site,GM Energy.
GM Energy for Home
If you own a GM EV, you might be able to say goodbye to your whole-house generator. In the event of a blackout, the GM EV Power Backup feature can be used as a power source forthe home. The company’s 2024 Silverado EV RST, for instance, can power the average abode for up to 21 days if needed.
GM’s flexible Energy bundles can be customized online to suit the needs and budgets of each user, and each has software integration for seamless operation via GM’s vehicle brand apps. With this user-friendly offering, customers are able to easily and efficiently control their home charging, energy storage systems, and vehicle-to-home (V2H) solutions.
GM Energy for Businesses
In addition to energy for homes, this new advancement can also greatly benefitbusinesses. With flexible and secure energy storage solutions that draw power from the grid and solar panels, business owners will no longer have to worry about interruptions, stock loss, or other inconveniences during power outages.
Just as with its offerings for home use, GM Energy will allow companies to keep costs down by utilizing off-peak hours, and, in order to encourage companies to switch to clean energy, GM also provides comprehensive EV support for businesses transitioning to electric vehicles.
GM Energy Live Platform
For anyone curious (or not yet convinced) about this new technology, GM has created theEnergy Live platform, offering live demonstrations of its new energy technology solutions. Specialists at GM showcase the new products and address customer questions, providing personalized insights into how this new tech can and will be used.
