IKEA Australiaannouncedplans to install energy management systems and electric charging for delivery partner fleets at its 10 stores nationwide. The company expects to complete the installations by 2025.
IKEA Charging Abilities
According to an IKEA press release, the $4.5 million investment will include electric charging for six vehicles at each store. The company also plans to install charging capabilities for 28 vehicles at its Central Distribution Center warehouse in Sydney.
IKEA said the infrastructure will feature a combination of DC and AC charging, accommodating vans and trucks used by its delivery partners. The company expects the chargers to offer 20 to 22 kilowatts for overnight charging and 75 to 150 kilowatts for fast charging.
Working with an EV Charging Partner: JET Charge
The company is implementing the project in collaboration with JET Charge, an electric vehicle charging infrastructure provider that will install and supply its CORE energy management system for on-site energy control.
Helping Out Delivery Drivers
IKEA mentioned that the project would support delivery drivers by adding to the modern public charging infrastructure that primarily supports passenger vehicles. The development also aligns with the company’s goal of reducing its global greenhouse gas emissions and achieving 100% zero-emission truck deliveries at IKEA Australia.
Alexandra Kelly, IKEA Australia’s Zero Emissions Delivery Lead, praised the investment, stating that it could inspire more change in last-mile delivery.
