Door Manufacturer Opens New Facility in South Carolina, Adding More Than 200 Jobs

A Florida door manufacturer plans to open a new factory in Upstate South Carolina and add more than 200 jobs, company officials announced.

Masonite International Corp. said the 370,000-square-foot facility in Fort Mill would produce doors for the North American residential housing market. Masonite executives said they picked the town in part due to the local manufacturing workforce and its proximity to suppliers and customers, particularly in the southeastern U.S.

“The new plant’s location is ideally suited from a logistics standpoint to service some of our strongest markets,” Masonite President and CEO Howard Heckes said in the announcement. “Leveraging state-of-the-art equipment and our Mvantage operating system, our Fort Mill facility will be a safe and efficient addition to our manufacturing network.”

The facility is expected to begin operating early next year with a workforce of more than 220 people. It will join an existing Masonite factory in nearby Charlotte, North Carolina.

The announcement follows Masonite’s decision to close a plant in Denmark, South Carolina, in 2019. That move eliminated 110 jobs.

Masonite, based in Tampa, designs, produces, and distributes both interior and exterior doors to about 7,600 customers across 60 countries.
