Massachusetts manufacturer Mayhew on Friday announced its acquisition of fellow tool maker BestWay in an effort to bring products from each company into new markets.
Mayhew officials said the companies would continue to operate independently in their current, respective facilities, but explore mutual branding and sales as well as potential operational efficiencies. Company president John Lawless said Mayhew employees would begin meeting with BestWay customers over the next several weeks.
BestWay — officially known as BWT FLA — is primarily known for screwdrivers and bits produced at its plant on Florida’s Atlantic Coast. Mayhew, whose products include chisels, pry bars, and punches, said it would also send representatives to the BestWay factory in hopes of capitalizing on growth opportunities. The combined company hopes to expand its reach in hardware, industrial and automotive markets.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We welcome the BestWay Tools team and their customers to the Mayhew family and look forward to continuing to build upon the strong legacy they have established of delivering customers, both old and new, high-quality hand tools they have come to rely on for consistent use,” Lawless said in the announcement.
