Japanese eVTOL aircraft maker SkyDrive announced a collaboration with American aviation and aerospace component manufacturer F&E Aircraft Maintenance (FEAM Aero). The companies expect the partnership to create a framework for the scalability, support, and maintenance of eVTOL aircraft in the U.S. and globally.
The partnership aims to integrate its solutions into existing U.S. transportation systems, according to SkyDrive CEO Tomohiro Fukuzawa.
SkyDrive and FEAM Aero will develop operational use cases to validate the SkyDrive eVTOL fleet’s ability to perform reliably and efficiently in various real-world situations. However, the collaboration will prioritize regional routes because the companies expect quicker regulatory approval for regional airports.
FEAM Aero’s global network includes 52 line stations that support more than 130,000 flights annually. The company also serves 70 operators, including private companies, cargo carriers, major airlines, and regional airlines, and operates four hangars that feature more than 300,000 square feet of space.
SkyDrive tested flying car prototypes and concepts prior to its formal establishment in 2018. In 2019, the company conducted Japan’s first crewed eVTOL test flight. The company is awaiting FAA and Japan Civil Aviation Bureau certifications for its SKYDRIVE eVTOL.
