Hendrickson International Acquires Ohio Composite Spring Manufacturer

Commercial vehicle components manufacturer Hendrickson International last week announced its acquisition of springs maker Liteflex Composite Springs.

The deal includes Liteflex’s manufacturing facilities near Dayton, Ohio, as well as its equipment and intellectual property. Liteflex, which produces advanced composite suspension springs for the heavy-duty trucks and trailers, will be renamed Hendrickson Composites and operate as a division of its parent company, although the Liteflex name will continue as a brand.

Liteflex’s nearly 80 Dayton workers will transition to the new segment. Hendrickson officials said the deal would bolster its product offerings and increase its footprint in Ohio, which is already home to its trailer division and its newest manufacturing facility near Canton.

“As we look to future greenhouse gas reduction regulations, composite springs offer a lighter-weight product that will increase hauling capacity and improve fuel economy,” Hendrickson President and CEO Gary Gerstenslager said in a statement.

Hendrickson, headquartered in suburban Chicago, makes suspensions, axle and brakes systems, pressure control systems, springs, stabilizers, and bumpers. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
