Paper Manufacturer Announces Nearly $1 Billion Investment in Georgia Facilities

Paper products manufacturer Irving Tissue last week announced that it would open yet another new plant in Georgia.

The maker of Scotties brand tissues celebrated the grand opening of its new $470 million facility in Macon on Wednesday and announced it would spend $400 million to open another new facility to double its production capacity in the city.

Company President Robert Irving attributed the second phase of construction to customer demand, which he said already pushed the new facility to its maximum capacity.

“We knew that this plant’s strategic location would allow us to reach key markets and help to drive our growth,” Irving said in a statement.

The forthcoming plant will double its capacity in Georgia and add about 150 jobs to the current Macon workforce more than 200 employees.

The second plant is expected to be completed by early 2022. Irving announced the initial Macon project in the summer of 2017, and Georgia officials said the company had committed more than $1 billion to the area in recent years.
