Honda reportedly plans to build one of its compact vehicles solely in Indiana after phasing out production in its native Japan.
A U.S.-Made Civic Hatchback
A Honda spokesman told the Indianapolis Star that the hatchback version of its Civic hybrid would be produced only at the company’s Indiana Auto Plant beginning later this year.
That model, which starts at a price of around $27,000, is currently assembled both at the Greensburg, Indiana, complex and at Honda facilities in Japan.
Responding to Tariffs
The report suggested that the move could be in response to tariffs imposed on auto imports by the Trump administration. It came weeks after Reuters reported that Honda planned to shift production of future versions of the Civic hybrid from Mexico to the Indiana plant.
No Indication of Added Production or Jobs
Honda officials reportedly did not indicate how the latest shift might impact the Indiana plant’s production capacity or workforce levels.
