New Flyer’s Production
The SamTrans order was added to the backlog of Q2 2024. Firms then placed orders for New Flyer’s 40-foot zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell-electric buses across the second and third quarters.
New Flyer’s partnership with SamTrans has lasted more35 years. In that time, New Flyer has delivered more than 175 buses, with 27 being zero-emissions. Outside of the SamTrans partnership, NFI operates electric vehicles in more than 150 cities across six countries.
SamTrans Committed to Zero-Emissions Buses by 2040
With the New Flyer order in place, SamTrans shows commitment to the reduction of greenhouse gasses and emissions across communities in San Mateo County. SamTrans is pushing to meet net-zero emissions company-wide, having received additional funding from the Federal Transit Administration, local funds, and California’s HVIP voucher program.
SamTrans’ current diesel fleet will be converting to zero-emission buses in full by 2040 as part of the California Air Resources Board’s Innovation Clean Transit regulation. The purchase of New Flyer buses will additionally help SamTrans make the push to meet the U.S. greenhouse gas emissions target of 50-52% under 2005 levels by 2030.
