Tesla enthusiasts have been waiting patiently—or not so patiently—for a refresh of the brand’s most popular vehicles in the US. And at the top of that list is the automaker’s best-selling Model Y.
And it looks like they’re getting their wish.
Tesla recently announced that it would begin selling a newly redesigned Model Y in America starting in March.
The new Model Y adds a refreshed exterior and improved aerodynamics. It also brings a light overhaul inside, replacing second row manually folding seats with power-folding ones and incorporating a second-row touch screen.
The compact crossover also adds next-gen versions of its sound system, suspension, and noise reduction hardware, presumably for a smoother, more comfortable ride.
And if you have a need for speed, you’ll be excited to note that the vehicle’s 0-60 speed has been enhanced—going from 4.8 seconds to a reported 4.1.
The new EV will, at least initially, only be available in a loaded Launch Series, priced just above $61,000. Cars.com notes the Launch Series is $12,000 pricier than “the equivalent pre-face-lift car,” though it also includes supervised full self-driving capabilities and a towing package—two features, when combined, that bring a $9,000 bump when compared to the outgoing Model Y.
And if you’re on the fence, luckily Tesla is still selling its previous-gen model while supplies last. Otherwise, you might simply wait, as the Launch Series will most certainly clear the way for other Model Y variants, perhaps with fewer bells and whistles and some lower price points.
