Global Technology Systems Unveils Safer Rechargeable Battery

While lithium-ion batteries currently dominate the rechargeable and mobile device marketplace, Global Technology Systems has unveiled a new technology that could be safer and power devices longer. Projected for availability by 2020, the company’s Lithium-water technology could also lower the environmental impact associated with attempting to properly recycle these power sources.

Because these new batteries would not present an ionization of gasses, they would be less volatile and operate at lower temperatures. This would eliminate the need for the additional components needed to regulate power and temperature in lithium-ion applications. Instead, the only substances being generated and discharged are oxygen and hydrogen, similar to water electrolysis. This lack of metal oxides helps generate longer run times, and the less complex nature of the batteries means they should also be less expensive as the technology matures.

Patents have been filed for the new Li-water battery technology, with further testing and development underway. Licensing and partnering opportunities will also be a key focus as the company looks to make their new batteries commercially viable and universally available.
