Wisconsin Contract Manufacturer to Invest up to $45 Million, Create Nearly 400 Jobs in Michigan

An eastern Wisconsin contract manufacturer has announced an agreement that is slated to bring hundreds of manufacturing jobs to suburban Detroit.

Mayville Engineering Company signed a 10-year lease on a 450,000-square-foot facility in Hazel Park, Michigan, that company officials said would align its production capacity with a new, unnamed “strategic customer.”

Mayville expects to invest between $35 million and $45 million in the site over the next year and establish full production by early 2022. The facility is expected to house up to 390 workers.

The company cited the area’s manufacturing workforce in its decision to expand in Michigan and noted that it will receive $2.5 million in state incentives.

“This facility will include state of the art technology and equipment, which will allow us to efficiently produce the highest quality components for our new customer starting early next year,” Mayville Chairman, President, and CEO Bob Kamphuis said in the announcement.

Mayville, headquartered in its namesake Wisconsin city with locations in seven states, provides prototyping, tooling, production, coating, assembly, and aftermarket services for numerous end-markets, including agriculture, construction, defense, powersports, and medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles.

The Hazel Park site will be the company’s sixth Michigan location.
