Lockheed Martin Receives Nearly $5B Army Missile Contract

Lockheed Martin has received a nearly $5 billion contract to produce long-range missiles for the U.S. Army, company officials announced.

Precision Strike Missiles

The defense and aerospace giant will manufacture what are known as “Precision Strike Missiles,” the next generation of missiles that can strike targets located about 250 miles away or more.

Open Architecture

The PrSM is the replacement for ATACM, the Army’s current tactical missile.

Lockheed Martin said in the announcement that the next-generation surface-to-surface weapon offers an open architecture to maximize design flexibility and modularity to accommodate future growth.

The missile is also compatible with the HIMARS and Multiple Launch Rocket System, or MLRS, platforms, the company said.

Meeting Growing Demand

Lockheed officials said that the contract, worth up to $4.94 billion, would provide a “significant increase in production capacity” to help meet growing demand.
