Trinity Rail to Add 260 New Jobs in Iowa

Railcar manufacturer Trinity plans to create 263 new jobs following the construction of a new $49 million facility in northern Iowa.

The Dallas-based company’s Trinity Rail Maintenance Services subsidiary will house railcar manufacturing rebuilds, retrofitting, and maintenance at a 230-acre site in Butler County, a rural area located about two hours from Des Moines.

The Iowa Economic Development Authority Board earlier this month approved tax benefits to support the project through the state’s High-Quality Jobs program. The Des Moines Register reported that the incentive package was worth $3.45 million based on 28 of the new jobs that will meet a state wage threshold. The county board of supervisors is expected to match that award through a property tax abatement.

Trinity, according to the paper, hopes the project will expand its operations in the Midwest. The company says it is one of the nation’s largest railcar manufacturers and manages a large and growing fleet of more than 120,000 railcars.
