Sondors Debuts Electric Motorcycle, Eluding Harley-Davidson

Sondors recently debuted the Metacycle, a powerful new electric motorcycle. The Metacycle has a 4 kWh, 72-volt battery with a range of up to 80 miles. While an 80-mile ride on a traditional bike can be exhilarating, it can also tax the senses, which Sondors tries to address by engineering out the fumes, noise, and vibration.

The Metacycle’s aluminum cast "exo-frame” has a small, narrow profile that is light, with a curb weight of around 200 pounds. The profile attempts to make the bike more accessible, a moving target that has eveneluded industry leader Harley-Davidson. Traditional motorcycle enthusiasts are aging, and electric motorcycle manufacturers are trying to appeal to younger riders.

The bike has a PMAC Hub Motor (Permanent Magnet, Alternating Current) and a 31.5″ seat height, a little taller than a traditional cruiser but inline with more of a sportbike. It also has an integrated phone compartment with a transparent cover and wireless charging. So you can put your phone away, but it’s never too far.

Available in Supermassive, Artic, and Naked Silver, or black, white, and silver, the bikes start at $5,000, and the company plans to begin shipping in Q4 of 2021.

Founded in 2015, the company started as a result of a successful crowdfunding campaign to launch the Sondors Original electric bicycle created by founder Storm Sondors. The company has now sold about 95,000 ebikes around the globe. According to the company, it is the largest electric bike distributor in the United States.

And it doesn’t end with electric bikes and motorcycles; it looks like the company is making a move into the electric vehicle space as well.
