Collins Aerospace and Panasonic Avionics have collaborated on a new concept for business-class air travel that adds new levels of luxury and comfort to the upgraded seats.
MAYA, which was jointly unveiled at the 2024 Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, Germany, combines advanced environmental and seating technology with an expansive entertainment system. That includes integrated technology that can automatically adjust the softness or firmness and temperature of the seat cushion; absorb and reduce the bumps and vibrations that occur during flight; and set lighting that Collins said can help regulate the body’s release of melatonin, which could let passengers rest easier.
The MAYA suite also features a curved 45-inch OLED display with an audio system that doesn’t require headphones and technology that lets passengers sync their electronic devices. The ADAPT controller then gives them control of suite adjustments while providing mobility, sensory, cognitive and language accommodations.
Panasonic Avionics CEO Ken Sain said the display is 3 times bigger than standard screens and the first CinemaScope display, which is the screen format used in cinemas, to be featured in an airplane. He said depending on the passenger’s field of view, MAYA can offer up to a 50% better viewing experience than actually going to the movies.
In addition to focusing on luxury, Collins and Panasonic also kept sustainability in mind while designing MAYA. The companies said the suite features recycled, reusable and plant-based materials and structures that help to cut back on waste during the production process.
