Nutritional supplement maker Nutramax Laboratories this week announced another expansion at its campus in South Carolina.
The South Carolina Department of Commerce said the company would invest $20 million and add 225 jobs in Lancaster, near the North Carolina border. The expansion, according to the Charlotte Business Journal, would bring the company’s overall South Carolina workforce to 600 employees and establish it as the largest manufacturer in Lancaster County.
The company expanded from its original location in Maryland to Lancaster in 2010, when it relocated its animal health business. Nutramax previously invested $15 million and added 125 jobs at the facility in 2016, and the Business Journal noted that Nutramax’s owners quietly shifted its headquarters to South Carolina, as well.
Gov. Henry McMaster said the announcement reflected the overall growth of the state’s life sciences sector.
“The company has brought manufacturing jobs to a community that was in desperate need of them and continues to invest in Lancaster County with new facilities and jobs,” added Steve Harper, the chairman of the Lancaster County Council.
