Volvo Cars is working more closely withGoogleto put Gemini AI—a smarter version of Google’s voice assistant—into itscars. This move will not only improve the driving experience forVolvo’s vehicles, but for the “entire automotive industry.”
Gemini
Gemini—Google’s newest AI assistant—is a lot more advanced than the tech giant’s older version. For starters, it allows you to talk to it morenaturally.
You can ask (and get answers to) questions about your car (like how to use a certain feature), information about your destination before you get there, and it can even help you write and translate messages into 40+ languages.
Gemini in Volvo Vehicles
Some Volvo cars already have Google features built-in without the need to connect a phone. These include apps like Google Maps, Google Play, and the older version of Google Assistant.
Later this year, those vehicles will be upgraded to include Gemini, turning the car’s infotainment system into something more like a smart Android tablet built right into the car.
Google, Volvo Partnership
This expanded deal marks a big step forward in Google and Volvo’s relationship. Volvo will become a lead partner, getting to test new Google features before other carmakers.
The partnership is designed to push forward the development of “connected cars”—vehicles that run apps, access the internet, and offer a more helpful driving experience.
Gemini in Other Cars
Besides Volvo, other brands with Google built-in (like Lincoln, Honda, Chevy, GMC, and Acura) will also get Gemini later this year.
It will also be added to Android Auto, so even cars that don’t have Google built in will be able to use the new assistant by connecting a compatible phone.
