Aerospace parts manufacturer Meggitt recently announced plans to significantly increase its production of aircraft carbon brakes in central Kentucky.
State officials said the company will invest $82.7 million to bolster the capacity of its Danville location in order to meet newly awarded contracts with aircraft manufacturers.
The project is expected to eventually add 83 jobs to the facility’s current workforce of more than 200.
“Our order book has grown substantially in recent years and we are also witnessing a significant increase in carbon brake demand,” Meggitt Braking Systems President Brian Bondarenko said in a statement. “It is a trend that is set to continue and this investment is an essential part of our future strategy.”
The expansion, totaling 95,000 square feet, will include new carbon furnaces and ancillary equipment, upgraded machinery and a new maintenance hub. The Danville plant currently produces brakes for Airbus, Bombardier, Dassault, Embraer, and Gulfstream.
Meggitt is eligible for up to $1.4 million in state tax incentives over 15 years if it meets employment and compensation requirements, as well as recoup up to $350,000 in sales taxes paid on construction and equipment purchases.
