Boeing Receives $40 Billion Order for 737 MAX Aircraft

A European budget airline has agreed to buy as many as 300 Boeing aircraft in a deal reportedly valued at over $40 billion.

Ireland’s Ryanair will purchase 150 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft from the Chicago-based aerospace giant and have the option to order 150 more. The deal’s value, the Wall Street Journal noted, is based on current list prices; airlines are generally offered discounts on major orders.

Ryanair said the new planes, which will be delivered in phases between 2027 and 2033, would help replace its current fleet of 737s. The airline aims to increase its passenger traffic from the current 168 million to 300 million flyers per year by the spring of 2034.

The airline’s largest order to date would also create an estimated 10,000 new jobs for engineers, pilots, and cabin crew staff.

The purchase — also the largest-ever order for U.S.-produced goods from a company in Ireland — is pending approval by Ryanair shareholders at the company’s annual meeting later this year.

The agreement is one of several major orders secured by Boeing in recent months, including deals with United Airlines, Air India, and Saudia.
