FANUC America revealed what it calls the first explosion-proof paint cobot in the world at Automate 2024. The automation company announced the globally available CRX-10iA/L Paint collaborative robot, which offers automation benefits for companies specializing in industrial painting, powder, coating, and fiberglass-reinforced plastic applications.
According to a FANUC press release, the nearly 100-pound, 6-axis CRX-10iA/L Paint cobot boasts a payload of about 22 pounds, a reach of over 4.5 feet, and force-sensing technology. These features allow the robot to reach large workpieces in areas that are ergonomically challenging for humans to access.
The cobot features a smooth, rounded design, a compact footprint that can be enhanced by the R-30iB Mini Plus controller, and is maintenance-free for eight years.
Additionally, the cobot is built to comply with explosion-proof safety regulations required in the U.S. and various global safety certifications, such as ATEX, IECEx, Japan, Canada, China, Korea, Brazil, and Taiwan.
The CRX-10iA/L Paint cobot follows more than 40 years of paint robots from FANUC and looks to expand coating and paint automation capabilities to more operations. FANUC emphasized that even those lacking robotics experience could rapidly and efficiently deploy the cobot.
This ability is enabled through “easy-teach” features, such as “lead through teach,” drag and drop programming, path editing, ROBOGUIDE software, and the FANUC CRX Tablet Teach Pendant, which lets first-time users make paint path programs.
