GE Aerospace is set to build dozens of engines for customers worldwide under new agreements unveiled at the recent Paris Air Show. The maker of jet engines and other aircraft components announced deals with U.S. regional carrier Republic Airways, as well as airlines in Indonesia, Taiwan, and Saudi Arabia.
Indianapolis-based Republic ordered 37 of GE’s CF34-8E engines for its fleet of Embraer jets, a deal that extends an existing service agreement with GE and also includes spare engines.
China Airlines, based in Taiwan, ordered 17 GEnx-1B engines for its fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets, while the company and its CFM International joint venture with Safran will overhaul the engines of Garuda Indonesia and its subsidiary fleets under a strategic pact with Indonesia’s national airline. The largest deal announced during the expo, for 90 GEnx-1B engines, will power Riyadh Air’s 787-9 Dreamliner fleet.
GE Aerospace also announced a handful of military aircraft orders during the show, along with research partnerships with Clemson University and the National Research Council of Canada.
Financial terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
GE is in the process of spinning off its non-aerospace businesses, including healthcare and energy operations, under a reorganization plan announced in late 2021.
