U.S. Air Force Awards Northrop Distributed Mission Operations Services Contract

Northrop Grumman has been awarded a $801 million, ten-year contract to provide advanced training solutions for U.S. Air Force combat air forces (CAF).

CAF Distributed Mission Operations

The CAF Distributed Mission Operations (CAF DMO) program is designed to offer Air Force personnel a rugged virtual training environment, including large-scale simulations of real-life combat scenarios, and daily team training sessions.

The program features an interoperable platform so that personnel across various security levels can collaborate securely and effectively. Plans are to integrate this system into existing readiness exercises.

$801 Million Contract Details

After a competitive bidding process, and three submitted offers, Northrop Grumman was selected to lead the project. Work will be based in Orlando, Florida, and is set to continue through to December 11, 2034.

The new $801 million financial support is quite the leap from the initial amount allocated by the military branch—$5,526 from the fiscal year 2025 operations and maintenance budget.

Importance

Virtual training environments like those provided under the CAF DMO program offer cost-effective and scalable solutions for preparing aircrew for a range of combat situations.

Distributed training will make sure that pilots can train from different locations, something that will save funds and resources.

Northrop Grumman Air Force Contract Details—Summary

This initiative aligns with the Air Force’s goal of enhancing the operational readiness of its combat air forces by improving the skills and coordination needed for 21st-century combat scenarios.

It will change the game for its training capabilities and sets the stage for how military training will be conducted going forward. Northrop Grumman being selected isn’t surprising; the company is a leader in military technology, and has cemented its place as a trusted partner in national defense.
