A global automotive supplier this week announced plans for a $400 million factory in central Texas that is expected to create about 900 jobs.
AW Texas, a U.S. subsidiary of Japanese manufacturer Aisin AW, plans to establish the facility on a 159-acre site in suburban San Antonio, according to The Rivard Report.
Aisin produces drivetrains, transmissions, and vehicle technology systems, and is a major supplier to Toyota, which makes the Tacoma and Tundra pickups in the city. The report suggested that the Japanese automaker could be planning to expand its Texas assembly operations.
Guadalupe County Judge Kyle Kutscher told the publication that Aisin “has a lot of history and stability, and I think will be a positive attribute to our county for a long time.”
The county offered a reported $13 million tax abatement to the company, while the city of Cibolo offered a 20-year agreement valued at $9.6 million. Additional economic development incentives could be worth up to $4.6 million, although it will vary based on AW Texas’ investments in the area over a 10-year span.
Aisin also operates U.S. plants in Michigan and North Carolina.
“We have found many of the attributes that match our company culture in Cibolo and Guadalupe County,” AW Texas Managing Officer Satoru Kasuya reportedly told a joint meeting of city and county officials Tuesday.
