Insulation manufacturer Knauf plans to invest more than $32 million to expand its facility in southern Michigan, state economic development officials announced Tuesday.
The project will upgrade an idled manufacturing line in Albion, Michigan, in order to resume production — a move that is expected to increase the plant’s capacity by more than 30% and create 34 new jobs.
Plant manager Kevin Keen said the expansion would help the company meet “growing demand in the upper Midwest for quality loose-fill insulation products.”
The company said demand for its insulation is climbing for both new construction and existing homes. Michigan officials, meanwhile, said Knauf Insulation North America’s Germany parent company is the fastest-growing insulation company in the world.
Knauf is eligible for more than $900,000 in incentives from the state.
“We are excited to add 34 new full-time positions to our team roster, and to provide the surrounding area with an increase in employment both through the construction phase of the project and after start-up,” Keen said.
The subsidiary, established in Indiana more than 40 years ago, also operates facilities in Alabama, California, and West Virginia.
