Vehicle chassis manufacturer BWI Group on Friday officially opened its new $80 million factory in suburban Indianapolis.
BWI, or BeijingWest Industries, is a joint venture between Shougang Corp. and Beijing Fangshan State-Owned Asset Management that acquired Delphi’s brake and suspension business a decade ago. Indiana economic development officials said the company now supplies General Motors — Delphi’s former parent company — as well as Ford, Honda, BMW, Audi, Porsche, and Ferrari.
Construction on the Greenfield, Indiana, plant began more than two years ago. BWI expects to employ 195 people at the facility by the end of the year and 441 workers by the end of 2021. The factory will increase the company’s suspension systems production by some 4 million parts per year, officials said.
"BWI is creating hundreds of new careers,” Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb said in a statement. "They’re changing the lives of so many Hoosier families for the better, and I couldn’t be more excited or more proud to be a part of that.”
