Logistics company DHL Supply Chainannouncedthe deployment of its first Class 8 electric trucks. The company plans to operate 13 units across California, North Carolina, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
DHL Supply Chain discovered through a six-month pilot project that their Class 8 electric trucks do not emit any tailpipe carbon dioxide or nitrogen oxide and consume an average of 50% less energy than diesel trucks. The vehicles also feature an estimated range of up to 250 miles, as well as fast-charging and remote monitoring capabilities.
Additional insights from the company’s pilot project revealed enhanced horsepower and torque compared to diesel trucks and a quieter, less vibrational ride, contributing to less fatigue for drivers.
The company also noted that drivers involved in the pilot project preferred the Class 8 electric trucks over diesel-powered trucks.
The expansion expands DHL Supply Chain’s global fleet of 30,000 electric vehicles (EVs), which range from light to heavy-duty. This year, the company introduced 30 additional EV yard trucks, bringing the total to 60 in operation in North America.
The development also aligns with DHL Supply Chain’s goal of establishing a North American fleet that consists of 30% zero or near-zero emission vehicles by 2030.
