Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Zeekr has introduced a new battery that charges much quicker than its competitors’ products, including Tesla.
Zeekr claims that its latest battery can charge from 10% to 80% in just 10.5 minutes, a breakthrough that addresses one of the biggest concerns for EV owners: charging time.
Zeekr’s New Battery Technology
Zeekr’s new battery, known as the Golden Battery, is a lithium-ion-phosphate unit that supports 800-volt ultra-fast charging. This high voltage provides more energy, higher charging capacity, and better overall performance and efficiency.
The Golden Battery can run a car for 310 miles with just 10.5 minutes of charging. When it’s fully charged, it can power a vehicle for up to 423 miles. In comparison, Tesla’s Model 3 takes around 15 minutes to recharge up to 48% of its range.
Zeekr vs. Tesla Charging Speeds
Zeekr’s new battery technology not only challenges Tesla’s in charging speed but surpasses it. While Tesla’s supercharger can add up to 200 miles in 15 minutes, Zeekr’s battery can charge in less time and even in extreme temperatures.
The battery can reach 80% charge in 30 minutes at 14°F. This performance makes Zeekr a rival that Tesla should take seriously, especially in this market where charging speed and battery efficiency are important to consumers.
Zeekr’s Fast Charging Battery Rollout
This new battery will first be used in Zeekr’s 2025 007 sedan, with deliveries beginning soon. The company has already rolled out over 500 ultra-fast charging stations across China, aiming to double this number by the end of the year.
Zeekr has invested a lot of time and money in this technology, with over 1,000 engineers working for three years to develop the battery. It’s also strategically expanding its charging infrastructure to support its growing EV fleet.
Zeekr’s Expansion and Impact
As an example of how quickly battery tech is advancing in the Chinese EV industry, Zeekr plans to operate over 10,000 ultra-fast charging stations worldwide by 2026 to ensure its customers have access to the fastest charging options available.
Despite facing challenges, such as a 50% drop in its stock value, Zeekr is set on expanding its global presence, aiming to deliver 230,000 vehicles this year and giving Tesla a run for its money.
