An Idaho-based energy storage company on Tuesday announced plans to establish a new battery plant that will house more than 2,000 manufacturing jobs.
Kore Power said the lithium-ion battery factory would produce its Mark 1 system with “fully automated” assembly lines and processes. Company officials said the 1 million-square-foot facility would feature 10 GWh of scalable manufacturing capacity to meet the growing demand for customized industrial battery systems.
The Mark 1, which utilizes lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide (NMC) cells, is currently produced in China under Kore’s partnership with chemical company Do-Fluoride Chemicals. The company said the system aims to optimize performance while reducing installation and operating costs.
The company said it is evaluating potential factory locations in several states with the necessary access to labor and logistics hubs.
“This new manufacturing plant is another step in our mission to increase our capacity to supply North American markets, and also to grow our international presence,” Kore CEO Lindsay Gorrill said in a statement.
