A Pennsylvania-based battery manufacturer plans to invest more than $100 million and add 266 jobs at its location in Central Texas.
On November 14, Gov. Greg Abbott’s office announced that East Penn Manufacturing Co. would build a new facility to bolster its distribution operations in Temple, Texas. The company’s lead-acid batteries supply the automotive, agricultural, marine, and other industrial markets.
Local economic development officials said that the $106 million project would be constructed in a 305-acre industrial park within the city.
The company will be offered more than $1.3 million from the Texas Enterprise Fund, which offers “deal-closing” cash grants — based on hiring and capital investment projections— to companies that move forward with Texas-based projects over competing sites in other states.
Chris Pruitt, East Penn’s president and CEO, called the expansion a “significant investment." "We are pleased that it will be in a community and state where we feel we can flourish and grow," he added.
