PPG to Acquire Industrial Coatings Manufacturer

This month, paints and coatings manufacturer PPG announced an agreement to acquire fellow Pennsylvania company Whitford Worldwide.

Whitford produces low-friction, wear-resistant coatings used in the automotive, aerospace, energy, and construction industries, as well as nonstick coatings for cookware, bakeware, and small appliances. The privately owned company employs about 700 people in 10 manufacturing facilities. In addition to its flagship plant in Elverson, Pennsylvania, Whitford operates in Ohio and Ontario, as well as the U.K., Italy, Brazil, China, India, and Singapore.

PPG said the deal would bolster its industrial coatings product range and R&D capabilities, while Whitford officials called the move “a giant step forward” for the company.

Whitford founder and board chairman Dave Willis said in a statement that in "one fell swoop, we will have access to new technologies, diverse R&D facilities, strong financial support, and global coverage in areas where we have wanted to expand, but did not yet have sufficient resources."

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
