U.S. Cookie Cutter Manufacturer Says it Can “Predict the Future” Based on Sales

Manufacturing company Ann Clark is cutting through the cookie clutter and showing how cookie cutters can reflect cultural changes.

According to theNew York Times, Ann Clark is the leading manufacturer of cookie cutters in the U.S. Established in 1989, the company reportedly accounts for approximately 65% of U.S. cookie cutter sales, totaling around $12 million annually.

Ann Clark’s approach involves releasing five million cookie cutters in 750 shapes each year. The company also analyzes market demand and adjusts production based on cultural trends, such as creating music-themed shapes during Taylor Swift’s “Eras” tour or convertible cars and lipstick shapes for the release of the “Barbie” film.

Ann Clark makes its cookie cutters at a factory in Vermont. The production process involves trimming strips of tin-plated steel to match the length of a cookie cutter, welding the strips into circles, and placing them on heavy metal dies. Arms then manipulate the metal at precise points to shape it. The company’s automated machines can produce up to 1,000 cutters hourly.

However, additive manufacturing technologies may challenge Ann Clark’s production process by enabling the on-demand printing of plastic versions of the culinary tool. The New York Times also noted that cookie-cutter sales stagnated from November 2022 to October 2023.
