Unilever intends to spend about $1.5 billion to bolster its operations in Mexico, according to a recent announcement.
A New Factory, 1,200 Jobs
The U.K.-based consumer products giant, whose brands include Dove soap, Pepsodent toothpaste, and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, indicated that just over $400 million of that total would go toward a new personal care and beauty products factory in the northern state of Nuevo Leon.
A company official said during the announcement at Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum’s daily press conference that the spending is expected to create about 1,200 jobs.
Increasing Production Capacity
Unilever expects to begin spending the money in Mexico this year and continue the program through 2028. Officials hope to increase the company’s overall production capacity in the country.
Unilever says Mexico is among its top 10 largest markets.
"Plan Mexico”
The move comes amid an initiative by Sheinbaum, known as “Plan Mexico,” to attract foreign and domestic company spending to the country.
