Pharmaceutical company Roche expects to spend some $50 billion to expand its U.S. operations over the next five years.
Creating 1,000 Jobs
The Swiss company said the funding will go toward both manufacturing sites and research and development facilities. It is expected to create 1,000 jobs at Roche facilities in the U.S. and another 11,000 “in support” of its American manufacturing operations.
Expanding Its Footprint
The overall spending includes some projects that were previously announced or, in some cases, already under construction; Roche did not disclose how much new spending was included in the announcement, the Associated Press reported.
The company did indicate that the projects would bolster its overall U.S. footprint to 24 locations across eight states.
U.S. Workforce of 25,000
Roche manufactures a wide range of medications, including cancer treatments and Ocrevus, a treatment for multiple sclerosis. It currently employs some 25,000 people in its U.S. operations.
