Hitachi Rail, a worldwide transit company, is applying NVIDIA IGX to its rail procedure to decrease upkeep spending and lower energy use.
Hitachi Rail’s Plan
Hitachi Rail will utilize NVIDIA AI to lessen train idling time and improve passenger performance. NVIDIA IGX serves Hitachi Rail as an enterprise-level deliverer of AI computing, safety and security, and bandwidth processing. Hitachi Rail will use IGX within its HMAX platform to develop real-time camera and sensor data.
Taking out time between input and inquiry of data with HMAX allows Hitachi Rail to detect tracks in need of repair quickly. The platform will also allow for better assessment of signaling and train materials, as well as monitoring of power line corruption.
NVIDIA’s Real-Time Application
In addition to the current assortment of HMAX applications, 2,000 trains, and 8,000 train cars have used NVIDIA IGX to accelerate operations and infrastructure. AI monitoring has already cut service delays by 20% and maintenance charges by 15%. Adding this additional step of monitoring estimates to reduce cost by 7 times.
Exemplifying the power of NVIDIA sensor technology, mounting cameras to Hitachi’s trains allows for continuous cable monitoring, leading to the prevention of failure and full degradation.
Typically, it may take almost ten days to develop one day’s worth of footage. With NVIDIA AI processing, data sees real-time retrieval, and only necessary data is relayed back to control centers to evaluate and take corrective action over.
