Supply chain logistics firm ArcBest recently unveiled a new suite of hardware and software products that company officials said would transform the loading, unloading, and transferring of freight.
Vaux, the company said, could allow operators to unload the entire contents of a trailer in less than five minutes while providing “complete visibility” of freight movement within warehouses, on docks, and during highway transit.
The package consists of Vaux MP, MP Coupler, and Vaux OS. The Vaux MP is a customizable mobile platform that fits inside a trailer and is moved using standard forklifts equipped with MP Coupler — which enables quick movement and rapid turns. Those systems connect to Vaux OS, a software stack that works with existing warehouse management systems to organize movement, assign tasks, and provide insights in real time.
ArcBest said the project stems from efforts to improve operations and working conditions in its own facilities that began in 2019. Michael Newcity, the company’s chief innovation officer, suggested that Vaux would be a “game-changer” in the face of congestion, throughput issues, sustainability concerns, and other supply chain challenges.
Newcity said the ability to unload an entire shipment so quickly is a game changer and "groundbreaking.”
The company said it is currently partnering with businesses in the manufacturing, automotive, and retail sectors to continue testing and modifying its technology.
