A maker of zero-emission commercial trucks plans to establish its first North American plant in Southern California, company officials announced.
A New Plant and Headquarters
ZM Trucks, the North American subsidiary of Japan’s ZO Motors, said that it would build a 210,000-square-foot factory on a nearly 10-acre property in Fontana, California.
The site would also become the company’s new regional headquarters.
Producing Trucks and Other Equipment
Manufacturing operations at the Fontana hub are expected to begin in the first half of the year.
ZM Trucks said the facility would initially produce electric commercial trucks, along with terminal tractors and airport ground service equipment.
"Significant” Job Creation
The company did not provide specific details on project costs or potential employment levels, but the statement said that the campus is expected to generate “significant job opportunities” in the area.
Global Ambitions
ZO Motors officials said that the announcement reflects its commitment to both the U.S. market and its overall strategy of scaling across regional markets. The Fontana plant would join a previously announced facility in Cambodia.
