Tech behemoth Apple plans to invest more than a half-trillion dollars in its U.S. operations over the next four years, company officials announced.
Houston Server Plant
The iPhone maker said it will work with partners to establish a 250,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Houston, where the company will build servers to support its “Apple Intelligence” generative AI technology.
The company did not provide details on the project’s cost or an estimated workforce, although it said the factory would create “thousands” of jobs. The facility is scheduled to open next year.
Doubling the Advanced Manufacturing Fund
The company will also double its U.S. Advanced Manufacturing Fund, founded in 2017, from $5 billion to $10 billion. That total includes a “multibillion-dollar commitment” to produce silicon at a TSMC facility in Arizona.
Detroit Tech "Academy”
Apple also intends to form an Apple Manufacturing Academy in Detroit, which would provide AI and smart manufacturing consulting services to small and midsize businesses and expand its U.S. research and development operations across “cutting-edge fields.”
Hiring 20,000
In addition to the added direct jobs and infrastructure — including tech hubs, data centers, and corporate offices — the investment total includes Apple’s work with U.S. suppliers, as well as its production of Apple TV+ content in 20 states.
Apple expects to hire about 20,000 people over the next four years, primarily in R&D, AI, machine learning, and silicon engineering.
