Michigan State University officials announced that they will help bring an Apple manufacturing technology hub to downtown Detroit in the coming months.
Part of a $500B Initiative
The iPhone maker first outlined plans for the Detroit “Apple Manufacturing Academy” earlier this year as part of a broader plan to invest more than $500 billion in the U.S. over the next four years.
Michigan State’s subsequent early April announcement indicated that the facility would open this summer in the city’s First National Building.
Implementing AI, Smart Technologies
University officials said the academy would enable Apple engineers and Michigan State experts to advise small and mid-sized manufacturers on implementing artificial intelligence systems and other smart manufacturing technologies into their operations.
The programs would be offered free of charge and available both in-person at the Detroit location and through online classes. Officials said the curriculum would include project management, process optimization, vocational skills, and leadership training.
Adding to MSU-Apple Initiatives in Detroit
Michigan State already works with the tech giant on the Apple Developer Academy in Detroit, which has graduated approximately 200 participants each year since 2021.
