Aalo Atomics announced its Aalo-1 non-nuclear prototype and introduced a 40,000-square-foot manufacturing site in Austin, Texas. The advancements align with the modular nuclear plant builder’s goal of providing power for data centers.
Supporting Power Plants
The company explained that the Aalo-1 is critical in its Aalo Pod XMR, a 50-megawatt electric power plant. A fully modular Aalo Pod features five Aalo-1 reactors and can reportedly scale to gigawatts. It also offers a small footprint and does not require external water sources.
Aalo Atomics can manufacture and deliver the Aalo Pod using standard shipping methods, which reduces installation time.
New Nuclear Technology
CEO Matt Loszak stated that the company’s nuclear reactors combine the advantages of factory-made microreactors, the output of small modular reactors, and the cost goals of a large reactor, creating a new category of nuclear technology that can meet the rising data center demand.
Aalo Atomics expects to break ground on its first nuclear reactor next year.
Other Aalo Atomics Developments
Aalo Atomics recently signed a memorandum of understanding with electric utility company Idaho Falls Power to deploy seven Aalo-1 reactors for a combined 75 megawatts of power generation. The Texas A&M RELLIS Technology and Innovation Campus also selected the company to develop up to one gigawatt of nuclear energy generation capacity.
