3D Printing Brand LulzBot Moves to North Dakota After Acquisition

Fargo Additive Manufacturing Equipment 3D (FAME 3D), based in North Dakota, acquired all assets from Colorado-based Aleph Objects on November 8, 2019. The deal included the popular LulzBot 3D printing brand.

The announcement came about a month after Aleph Objects laid off 80% of its staff. Only 22 of the company’s 113 employees survived the cuts in a move that kept the cash-strapped company’s head above water.

Now, the LulzBot brand is ceasing manufacturing operations in Loveand, Colorado, and moving production closer to its new owners in North Dakota.

According to the Associated Press, FAME 3D will relocate 13 employees from Colorado and hire an additional 50 workers at its plant in Fargo for light assembly, support, and other positions.

According to FAME 3D, 10,000 LulzBot printers were manufactured last year, including the TAZ Workhorse and TAZ Pro, which retail for around $5,000.

The move was announced on December 19 by Gov. Doug Burgum of North Dakota.

FAME 3D is run by Ron Bergan, who previously owned Fargo Assembly Co. for 42 years with his wife, Mary Alice Bergan. The Bergans sold Fargo Assembly, which produces electrical wiring assemblies, to Electrical Components International in 2017. Shortly after the sale, three of Fargo Assembly’s North Dakota plants closed.
