A manufacturer of machined parts for aerospace applications has added dozens of jobs since finalizing a $3 million expansion of its facility in southern Michigan.
Classic Turning officials told MLive that the company created 30 new jobs at its factory in Jackson over the past 11 months and that another 40 to 50 positions are expected to be added in three to five years.
“I don’t think I’ve seen this excitement since I’ve been around this business,” Phil Curtis, the company’s owner, told the publication.
Classic Turning provides CNC machining, rapid prototyping, metal finishing, engineering, and materials services.
The report noted that 10 positions are currently available at Classic, which experienced difficulty filling them due to a lack of skilled workers in the area. The company provides job training with assistance from Jackson Area Community College.
Classic officials approved the expansion, MLive noted, after seeking a 50% tax abatement from Leoni Township, where its facility is located. The company worked with local economic development group Enterprise Group of Jackson to move its application forward, the report said.
