Cadillac F1 Gains Momentum as GM Launches Power Unit Company

General Motors (GM) and TWG Motorsports (TWG) have announced the formulation of GM Performance Power Units LLC, a new venture to develop powertrains for Cadillac’sFormula 1(F1) project.

GM Performance Power Units

This initiative aims to make Cadillac a "full works” F1 team by the decade’s end, building both the cars and their engines in-house.

The team is set to join the F1 grid in 2026, initially using Ferrari power units untilGM’s enginesare ready to go. Plans include the opening of a dedicated facility near GM’s Charlotte Technical Center by 2026.

GM’s Advanced Tech

The project will showcase GM’s engineering capabilities, with ongoing development of its F1 prototype power units.

Aligning with GM’s innovation and sustainability goals, these engines combine advanced technology, includinghybrid systems, software, and sustainable fuels.

TWG’s Expansion

TWG Motorsports, a division of TWG Global, has been actively expanding its presence in the globalracing scene. The Cadillac F1 team in partnership with GM is a key part of this strategy.

As the group behind renowned racing teams such as Andretti Global, Wayne Taylor Racing, and Spire Motorsports, TWG is building on its success in other racing series and teams to take on F1.

Project Leadership

Currently GM’s director of Motorsports Propulsion and Performance, and with over 30 years of experience in motorsport engineering, Russ O’Blenes has been appointed CEO of the new venture.

O’Blenes, whose resume includes successful projects like the hybrid IMSA Cadillac engines, will be working alongside Team Principal Graeme Lowdon.
