CNH Industrial Unveils Electric Tractor Prototype With Autonomous Features

Agricultural equipment manufacturer CNH Industrial announced its New Holland T4 Electric Power, an electric tractor with autonomous features.

CNH Industrial described the prototype as the industry’s first all-electric light utility tractor with autonomous capabilities. The product also aligns with the company’s plan for electrification.

According to CNH Industrial Chief Digital and Information Officer Marc Kermisch, the T4 Electric Power is ideal for mixed farm, livestock, orchard, municipality, and specialty applications.

The zero-emission T4 Electric Power boasts 120 horsepower and a maximum torque of 440 newton-meters. Other features include four-wheel drive and a top speed of about 25 miles per hour.

CNH Industrial said the tractor’s battery pack provides a full day of operation and takes one hour to charge with fast charging systems. The tractor also serves as a backup power generator and supports daily tasks, such as drilling and welding.

Using its sensors, cameras, and control units, farmers can remotely activate the tractor, sync machines to work simultaneously, and use a 360-degree perception system to avoid obstacles.

Additionally, farmers can utilize fleet management and offboard digital services to assign tasks to different pieces of equipment and monitor performance and battery level.

CNH Industrial expects to begin commercial production at the end of this year.
