Mercedes-Benz provided an update on its plan to boost its global charging infrastructure. According to the luxury vehicles company, it will open its first high-power charging stations this October.
The initial Mercedes-Benz Charging Hubs will be established in Mannheim, Germany; Chengdu, China; and Atlanta, Georgia. By 2025, the automaker expects its global network to exceed 2,000 high-power charging points. These efforts align with Mercedes-Benz’s goal by 2030 to complete more than 2,000 charging hubs and 10,000 charging points.
Mercedes-Benz said its stations will provide a charging rate of 400 kilowatts and will be strategically located at key traffic areas and select dealerships. These stations are expected to offer refreshments, restroom facilities, canopies, surveillance cameras, and informative light poles indicating charging point availability and a vehicle’s charging status.
The charging network will be open to every EV brand’s drivers. However, Mercedes-Benz owners will enjoy specific advantages, such as the ability to make reservations through the Mercedes-Benz me Charge service. Additionally, the charging stations will be integrated into route planning, providing optimal charging methods. They will also include features like Plug & Charge, a service that lets customers automate the payment and charging process once the charging cable is connected.
This development follows an announcement in July that Mercedes-Benz drivers would be able to use Tesla Superchargers in North America beginning next year. The move will grant Mercedes-Benz drivers access to over 12,000 Tesla Superchargers across the continent through Mercedes me Charge.
