97,000 Manufacturing Jobs Announced in Major New Clean Energy/Vehicles Projects

Since the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) was signed into law in 2022, over 100,000 jobs, with a notable 97,000 in manufacturing, have been announced as part of major clean energy and clean vehicle initiatives. This February, a further 14 new clean energy and clean vehicle projects were announced across 11 states.

New Clean Energy Projects

These particular projects are anticipated to invest $4 billion and create over 4,400 jobs, with a substantial focus on manufacturing, especially in the electric vehicle (EV) and battery/storage sectors. The latest key announcements include Toyota’s $1.3 billion investment for EV production in Kentucky and Corning Inc.’s $900 million plant for solar parts in Michigan.

These projects, among others (totaling 292), contribute to a broader trend of economic growth spurred by clean energy initiatives and demonstrate the tangible economic benefits of transitioning towards clean energy.

Geographical and Sectoral Distribution

Since August 2022, clean energy projects have rapidly increased across numerous states, resulting in substantial job creation and capital investment. The geographical distribution of projects demonstrates a widespread impact, with Michigan and North Carolina leading in announcements.

Manufacturing dominates the project types, particularly in the battery/storage and EV sectors, reflecting the growing importance of these technologies in the clean energy landscape. Additionally, solar and wind energy projects contribute significantly to the diversification of clean energy initiatives.

Legislative Support

Legislative support is imperative in driving economic growth in the clean energy sector. Thanks to the IRA’s stimulation of these initiatives, clean energy projects have bipartisan support, with announcements spread across districts held by both Republicans and Democrats.

This highlights the economic benefits transcending political lines, benefiting various regions across the United States.

Clean Energy is the Way Forward

These recent developments provide insights into the significant economic opportunities associated with clean energy and clean vehicle projects. The economic incentives behind clean energy transitions, driven by substantial investments and job creation, strengthen the case for sustainability and underscore the importance of balancing economic growth with environmental protection. Bipartisan support further recognizes the environmental benefits of clean energy initiatives.
