U.S. Air Force Awards Boeing $175 Million Contract for 7 More MH-139A Helicopters

On April 29, 2024, leading American multinational aircraft corporation and manufacturer,Boeing, was awarded a $178 millioncontractby the U.S. Air Force (USAF) to make an additional seven MH-139A Grey Wolf helicopters.

MH-139A Grey Wolf

The modernMH-139A Grey Wolfis a versatile and affordable military helicopter developed by Boeing for the USAF. Based on Leonardo’s civilianAW139 helicopter, the Grey Wolf is designed for various missions including security, support, and transport.

Boeing made its own additions to the original design to include specialized military gear, and extra capabilities that make it suitable for a wide range of tasks, from personnel transport to surveillance, and even search and rescue operations.

National Security and Modernization

Azeem Khan, the MH-139 program director, noted that building up the Grey Wolf fleet is crucial for supporting the USAF’s mission of safeguarding vital national assets. It will also help to modernize the Air Force.

The USAF chose the MH-139A for protecting intercontinental ballistic missile sites, training support, sustainment, and transporting troops, officials, and cargo. The USAF already has 19 MH-139As, and the addition of these new seven will take the total to 26.

$178 Million Contract
