Wire Manufacturer Plans $40M Expansion, 120 New Jobs

A Connecticut wire manufacturer plans to invest more than $40 million in a third facility and add 120 jobs.

The Meriden Record-Journal reports that Accel International earlier this month purchased a 75-acre site in nearby Cheshire for nearly $4.5 million after the building's previous owner, Alexion Pharmaceuticals, relocated to Boston.

Accel, which makes high-performance conductors for the aerospace and electronics industries, will overhaul the former pharmaceutical plant to the tune of more than $40 million, senior vice president Dan Chung told the paper.

He added that the facility should begin operating by next spring. The project is expected to add 120 new hires and the company could expand further in the coming years.

Accel was founded in Cheshire in 2003 before moving to Waterbury and finally Meriden. The company plans to maintain its current facility in Meriden; It also operates a factory in northeastern Indiana.
